Thanks for Coming Out!

All of us at VIM Magazine wish to thank everyone who came out to support our organization and especially to help Japan on Thursday, April 7 at our Fashion For Japan fundraiser. We were able to raise quite a bit of money for the cause and could not be more thrilled. Below is a miniature gallery of images taken throughout the evening by VIM photographer Abbey Moore. (For the full gallery on our Facebook page click HERE.)

A special thank you goes out to our co-host for the evening, Todd (TJ) Duckett, as well as everyone at Club RUSH/Harper's of East Lansing for all their help throughout the evening.

Introducing... Sex at State

Good afternoon and welcome to my debut VIM column "Sex at State." Before diving into the many different issues that plague our East Lansing existence, I want to introduce myself (and warn you what you're getting yourself into). A lot of this column is "about me" and I find that I have had a number of typical college experiences (mixed with not-so-typical ones that you'll probably just be happy did not happen to you). I also have a number of friends who have helped me through it all and kept me sane, but who also provide me with great stories of their own ... especially when it comes to dating.

I think that I've dated almost every kind of guy there is in this small bubble of ours—the jock, the pretty boy, the rocker, the charmer, the list goes on. I am lucky enough to have had that life-changing relationship that most people are looking for, only to have my heart ripped out at the end of it, but that is a story for later.

My love for this school and its little city never falters, though it may sometimes kick my ass. I guess you could say that I've had a great time, bopping around, trying to figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do with my life. There are still a ton of things I don’t know, but I’ve found that I learn best from falling down and forcing myself to get back up. After all, college is the time in your life when you're supposed to make mistakes because later the "real word" is not going to be as forgiving.

So once a week, if you're up for some laughs, stories and life lessons, stay tuned…

…after all, I love a good story almost as much as I love a new pair of shoes.

VIMwatch: 2011 Golden Globes

This year's Golden Globes saw many fabulous fashion moments...and a few flops--Helena Bonham Carter anyone? Though it was tough, we've chosen our favorites below.

Ladies

Olivia Wilde, of Tron, owned the night in her lovely, princess-inspired Marchesa gown. Perhaps the best, and smartest, aspect of Wilde's look is her all around minimalism on everything but the dress. It must also be said that she looks awesome with bangs.

Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester worked last night's red carpet in not one but two major trends of the evening (neutral shades and long-sleeves) and, though many may not agree, we think she pulled them off the best. From her hair and makeup down to her shoes, Meester managed to make her untraditional Burberry dress truly stand out and looked absolutely beautiful.

Gents

Robert Pattinson rocked a gorgeous, midnight navy Gucci tuxedo. Not to mention we are loving (!) his new, shorter hair. Can you say swoon?

Though we think Johnny Depp looked great in his tuxedo-sans-tie, we're going with The Social Network's Jesse Eisenberg as our other best dressed male of the Globes. Eisenberg wore a wide peak, Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo--a vast improvement from his Mark Zuckerberg wardrobe.

VIMwatch: 2011 People's Choice Style

It's our favorite time of year...award season! The 2011 People's Choice Awards have just wrapped and we've got our picks for best fashion of the night.

Ladies

In a lovely Farah Angsana gown and Casadei heels, Ashley Tisdale, of High School Musical fame, stole the red carpet. We love the colors and detail in this dress and not to mention her wonderfully accessorized Swarovski clutch (see photo below). We must note, however, that Tisdale's too-tan skin was not the most flattering we have seen.

Actress/Singer Selena Gomez walked home the night a winner (and performer) and managed to do it with double the style. Now, we always think this 18-year-old looks great, but tonight she truly wowed us with not one but two gorgeous choices--our favorite being the second, print dress by former Project Runway winner Irina Shabayeva with Louboutin shoes, donned during her performance with The Scene. Note: The red carpet look was a Paule Ka dress, Zanotti pumps, and accessory accents in the form of teardrop earrings and a giant ring (see miniature photos below).

Gents

Zac Efron stepped out for the evening in a Burberry suit looking as handsome as ever. Our favorite hottie is currently sporting a buzz cut as a result of his upcoming big screen portrayal of a soldier. Not to mention, Mr. Efron took home the award for Choice Movie Star Under 25.

It looks like we can't get enough of celebs named "Zac/Zack/Zach" lately because our second male choice, Zachary Levi, falls right into that category. We love it when men change it up a bit and Levi's royal blue suit does just that. Props, Zachary, props.

VIMwatch: 2010 AMA Style

Ladies

The fashion last night was A-mazing, especially as far as the ladies were concerned. That said, we would like to give honorable mention to Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Osbourne, who have been hitting it as of late, and to Willow Smith, who is positively fierce. (Click on the thumbnails at the bottom to check out their lovely looks!)

Our first choice is Taylor Swift. Last night, she stepped out with new hair--probably our favorite part--and we loved the "metal" look of the dress and the strappy heels. Win.

It seems as though we've been seeing less and less of Mandy Moore lately. But with the release of her new animated flick Tangled, it only fit that she showed up to present last night and we loved her look. The colors in the dress are amazing and the sequined detail is gorgeous. A truly great choice.

Gents

Honestly, we cannot not give props to the men of NKOTBSB, especially the gorgeous-looking Nick Carter. Not only was their closing performance a lovely trip down memory lane, but they all looked great upon arrival. Anyone else kind of giddy about their upcoming tour?

Our final pick of the night goes to Ne-Yo, whose style we can't help but love. He tends to always rock the hat, but it definitely works. We are also loving the scarf as lining. Work it.

VIMpick: Tickle my France-Y

With winter right around the corner, we wanted to offer up one of our favorite nail polish shades to match the season's neutral colors.

Pictured above is Tickle My France-y by OPI. This rosy hue adds a little kick to the traditionally pale, winter shades.

VIMwatch: 2010 VMA Style

Ladies

To start, VIM chose Ciara because she is rockin' one of our favorite fall trends - lace. Not to mention, the R&B singer is doing it in head-to-toe Givency. Sold.

Apparently we have an all-new obsession with Selena Gomez because it feels like we blog about her a lot, but can we help it that she just hits it every time? We think not. For one, not many people can pull off metallic. Ever. But this Reem Acra number on Miss Gomez looks plain stunning and we can't wait to see what she wears next.

Gents

We fell in love with the Justins last night. Though we have two major things to say: 1) black is quite the trend and 2) seriously, when is JT coming out with new music?!

We have to give Bieber props. Though the outfit is a bit busy, we like the sneaker accent and love his vest. Biebs should however take a note from others and drop the "I'm a thug" posing, it's convincing no one. Need we remind you of Miley's months of giving paps the "peace" sign. Thought so.

Last, but not least, Mr. Timberlake. My how we've missed you. I suppose we could watch you on the big screen but it's just not the same as hearing you sing to us. Please read this and work on your next album, the world is sick of waiting. Anyway, JT hits the fashion note on the dot in this one, mostly because his shoes are just too good.

VIMwatch: 2010 Emmy style

Ladies

Golden Globe winner (for Felicity) Keri Russell, looked absolutely stunning - as usual - in this bright pink summer-y gown. We don't know how she does it, but girlfriend is always looking the epitome of class. And we love her hair, too. Check out Russell's new series Running Wilde, also starring Arrested Development's Will Arnett as the title character, on FOX.

Once again, the lovely Claire Danes was the envy of many in her gorgeous glittery gown. I mean, honestly, who doesn't love something that sparkles? And when someone can pull it off as well as Danes here, there's really nothing to complain about. Not to mention Danes took the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Temple Grandin.

Gents

Peter Facinelli apparently has time away from the Twilight films to also star in the Showtime series Nurse Jackie - who knew?! - and made an appearance at this year's Emmys looking pretty awesome. Though the hair might be what really makes this outfit, we are loving the white on white look.

Personally, we think The Office's John Krasinski can't help but be absolutely adorable. He really took that to another level at this particular award show with his fabulous silver bowtie. Love it!

Wall Art: Niagara Detroit

If you are looking to decorate your new residence hall room, apartment or house, look no further than Niagara Detroit.

Launched by former rocker and Motor City native, Niagara, this passionate artist's prints of the Pop art variety are to die for. Anything vintage is right up our alley and all of Niagara's designs scream vintage (and often comic book) - in a good way!

Happy decorating.
