Cookies, Meet Diet!

For the health—and taste—conscious, there are finally some sweet treats that won’t evoke a guilty conscience. New York fitness trainer Anke Cosich created Anke’s Fit Bakery, a business that sells wholesome baked goods from her own kitchen. Growing up in Germany, Anke was surrounded by sweet-smelling concoctions cooked in her grandmother’s and mother’s kitchens. Anke, an athlete from a young age, became an established trainer and dedicated runner. Her clients often complained of the scarcity of nutritious—yet delicious— snacks and desserts, so, with her childhood memories in mind, she began experimenting with fresh ingredients in her kitchen.

Fast forward to today, Anke’s creations are sold in stores throughout New York as well as shipped around the country. All of her products, which include cookies, peanut butter bars, granola and brownies, are a mix of unprocessed, natural ingredients. She forgoes butter in favor of canola and healthy oils. She substitutes white and brown sugar with organic maple syrup, agave nectar, sucanat and raw cane sugar in moderation. She also uses oats and spelt flour in her mixture. Her natural ingredients create a delectable, healthy snack that will unleash the most severe sugar cravings.

While Anke’s treats haven’t hit Michigan shelves yet, she has an online store and ships nationwide. VIM readers, never feel guilty about eating that last cookie again!

Fake the Bake

As the summer temperatures continue to soar, many of us are devoted to getting that perfect golden tan. Unfortunately, frying in high UV rays accelerates skin aging (wrinkles, age spots, etc.) and can cause cancer. Mothers urge us to wear high SPF lotion—and while we may not want to admit it, they are right. SPF is vital and should be a part of your daily skincare regimen. Use a daily moisturizer that has SPF 15 or higher to be fully protected from the sun’s dangerous rays. If you are out in the sun, be sure to reapply face and body SPF lotion periodically and after swimming.

For a safe golden glow, here are our top picks for self-tanners and bronzers—whether you want a slightly sun-kissed look or a savagely bronzed tan.

1. Stila Bronzing Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15- $32, stilacosmetics.com This daily face moisturizer—infused with 24kt gold—gives a gleaming, flawless look instantly, in addition to the bronze tint that comes within two days.

4. Neutrogena Sun Fresh Sunless Foam- $9.99, CVS Pharmacy With a refreshing grapefruit and nectarine scent, this foam formula is ultra-light and absorbs easily into your skin.
